Custom Breedings

The premise of a custom breeding is very simple: You pick one of our mares to breed to one of our stallions, or to an outside stallion, and pre-purchase the foal.  We breed the mare, care for her, and foal her out.  The baby will be available after weaning (approximately 4 months of age).  Why would we do this, you ask?  Well, we feel that our mares, like our stallions, are worth sharing.  We are offering Blue Ribbon or 1kl. mares with diverse pedigrees and a wide variety of stallions (basically any that are available for outside breeding) to be crossed in any way you see fit in order to meet your breeding or performance goals. 

 

A custom breeding benefits us, as foals are pre-sold and require no marketing or holding time after weaning; it benefits the purchaser by producing a specific and, hopefully, superior quality animal and by offering a more active means of improving their stock (better than simply waiting for a foal to come up for sale); finally, it benefits the Fjord breed by expanding the genetic diversity available.

 

Costs:  A foal by one of our stallions is $4,000.  A foal by an out-side stallion is $5,000 plus any breeding costs (breeding fee, collection/shipping, mare care, etc).  Please contact us for more information on custom breedings, our mares and stallions, or if you have any questions.  We will also be more than happy to make breeding suggestions and to discuss the pros and cons of various parings.
